----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2014 - THE YEAR IN CHRISTIAN MUSIC ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I've always been blessed with technical skills. And as I mentioned a couple of times in previous threads, I will often volunteer my time (solving computer problems) to others who are perhaps a little less computer savvy than myself. As such, I sometimes visit various help websites online. And if you have ever been to any of those sites yourself, you would have noticed that many times people's questions go unanswered. And yet when I know the answer, truth be told I just simply can't be bothered to (A) register at the site, and then (B) post the solution. It sure would be a whole lot easier if I didn't need to register first, in order to post. That's a trait of myself that I particularly don't care for. I wish I had more time, and perhaps more motivation to help out. But when we need to jump through the hoops of registration to post a simple message, I tend to become a little lazy and even disinterested. Along those same lines, every now and again someone will register right here on The Pirate Bay for no other reason than to send me a quick message. I'm humbled by that for a number of reasons. But perhaps least of which, it humbles me because I'm not so sure I would be doing the same thing if I were in their position. Like I said, I become disinterested when it comes to registration. But I know there are a lot of you out there who have been downloading these bundles for years. I know there are a lot of you out there who appreciate this source of music. And I know there are a lot of you out there who haven't yet registered here on The Pirate Bay because, well simply because you can anonymously download the torrents without registering. I am dedicating today's bundle to those unregistered people. Perhaps someday we will all hear from you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2014 - THE YEAR IN CHRISTIAN MUSIC ----------------------------------------------------------------------- BlessedMom recently shared an interesting link speaking on the subject of Switchfoot's new-found position on Christian music. For anyone who missed it, you can read the article here... http://faithlikes.com/2014/04/05/this-is-why-switchfoot-wont-sing-christian-songs-anymore/ I won't rehash the entire article, but Jon Foreman basically said he believes there is, and I quote, "no such thing as Christian music." Say what?!? He spoke about music being conformed to fit into "boxes", and suggested that Christ didn't come and die on the cross for his songs. Sometimes when we read articles, we don't truly comprehend the intended message. But in this case, I'm not sure how anyone can read this article and not conclude that Switchfoot has made a very public statement, perhaps for no other reason than to soften the shock that might be felt among their Christian fan base as they start to branch out to other genres of music. When I first came to know the Lord, I walked around with a pretentious smile on my face. Almost like I won the lottery. I was going to Heaven. Cha-ching. Hallelujah! At the time, little did I know that "knowing the Lord" and "knowing of the Lord" are two entirely different things. And I clearly didn't know the Lord. But once I grew in my role as a Christian, I learned that everything I do in this lifetime, every gift He has blessed me with, is meaningless if I'm freely not using those gifts to give back to Him. After reading the Switchfoot article yesterday, their message stayed with me throughout the day. With musical talent as gifted and promising as theirs, why wouldn't they want to glorify Him with every note played, every breath taken, and every lyric penned? Just as I am called to glorify Him with every talent He has given to me. After all, the most reiterated command in the Bible is for us to sing our praises to the Lord. Amen? So when those amongst us have the God-given talent to literally do just that, why walk away from those commands? I don't pretend to know much about the music industry. I'm still baffled how someone can call themselves a "Christian Performer" when only one of their ten album songs speaks of Christ. And not all ten. If you went to Church this coming Sunday, and your Pastor chose to speak the entire time about his car problems instead of Christ while standing at the pulpit, wouldn't you question that? If you went to see a living nativity scene next Christmas, and the coordinator decided to throw some teenage mutant ninja turtles into the mix, wouldn't you question that? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2014 - THE YEAR IN CHRISTIAN MUSIC ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm really enjoying the Casting Crowns bootleg that is included in today's bundle. Before I started to put a serious effort into beefing up my Christian Music collection, I spent a great deal of my time with bootlegs. For those that might not know what a bootleg is, it's a live recording, usually made by a fan in attendance. And from my perspective anyway, bootlegs have always given me an opportunity to get a feel for what it might be like to be at some of these concerts I couldn't attend, or perhaps remind me of what it was like to be at concert I actually attended in person. And I've always preferred a nice audience recording over something like a soundboard, or finely polished matrix. With a good audience recording, there is a warmth that almost puts you there in the seat right next to the Taper doing the recording. So you're left feeling like you were a part of the overall experience. With this Casting Crowns bootleg in particular, I wouldn't call it a very good audience recording. Truthfully, I would rate it on the low end of the quality scale. It's rather muffled and sounds like the Taper didn't have his recording device elevated high enough in the air. Nor does it sound like he put much of an effort into amplifying the talking between songs, or editing the sound levels after the fact so instruments like the guitar become more prevalent. Yet it is still a very nice addition to my collection. And after having listened to it a few times already, it left me feeling a part of that Casting Crowns concert which took place a mere eleven days ago (April 3rd) at the Independence Events Center in Independence Missouri. The music itself stays the same. The information I am offering doesn't. Please let me explain... I believe it was lategrad who, back in 2013, asked me to begin breaking down the genres found within these bundles. It was a good idea. And anyone who reads these messages with regularity knows that I have been doing just that. Although I probably mess up on identifying the styles more often than I ever get it right, I was still happy to give it a shot. That being said, I ran across some mangled road kill a few days ago that was once my "The Year In Christian Music" bundles. An individual, I believe perhaps in Romania, was picking apart these bundles, and then sharing the remnants on a private tracker, minus half of the content. He didn't include any rap, rock, alternative, etc because he felt, and I quote, it was "demonic" music. Now ordinarily I could care less. I just want God's message delivered. Period. But when the body of my ministry is picked apart and then shared elsewhere, under the exact same name I am sharing it here, then it does nothing more than pollute the trading pool. In other words, I would have had no issue with the guy if he shared his broken down (and less demonic) offerings under a different name other than "The Year In Christian Music." So I'm running a little experiment today. Please bare with me. I believe he will be back to grab this torrent. And, as he's done all year long, he will share it on that other tracker. But if I don't make it easy for him to just dine specifically on the chef's five-star recommendations, but rather force his hand to sample the entire buffet, how will he know what to share on that other tracker? And of course, for anyone who has come to rely on the genre breakdown, please know that I'll continue to do it in the future. But for now, and perhaps over the next few bundles, I just don't want to make it overly easy for him by flagging only certain genres which he will no doubt continue to share under this same bundle names. I've had initial discussions last week with someone on the matter, but there's a bit of a language and understanding barrier there. So I'm moving on to Plan B. And that is calling out to all of you for help. Specifically those of you who may have the means of making it possible. In your opinion, would you say I work hard at this? Do I faithfully serve you? In your opinion, am I honoring God? If you had to locate and gather all of this music yourself, would it not take you longer than a single click of a torrent file? Do you come here looking for Christian Music because it's easy, and you can usually count on me to find these albums for you? Do you feel you've been at all blessed by my years of service? We'll I've had enough of The Pirate Bay. I'm tired of anonymity giving some a false sense of bravado. I'm tired of the drama. I'm tired of dealing with the courage some find while hiding behind the glow of their monitor. I'm tired of being yoked into the negativity of some of these messages. I'm tired of all the advertising pornography I see on my screen each and every day I come here to torrent, or to answer your questions. I'm tired of coming here wondering who the next person is that will be pissing on my foot and telling me it's just rain. So here are four options... (1) I continue to torrent here. But I don't see that happening for much longer. I've been actively sharing here on TPB since 2009. Five years is enough. (2) One of you, who either has or knows of a private tracker, leads us all to that Promise Land. Once there, we all sign up. I would continue to torrent all of this great music, and then some. By now most of you know my collection is massive and growing daily so I can back that statement up. But at least we'd have more control over banning certain idiots. My only reserve is that the Owner of the tracker doesn't get hung up on nonsense like transcodes, and other such arguments over already inferior mp3 quality. (3) I may have the inside track on running a somewhat abandoned file-sharing website. I was asked to take it over a year or so ago. I didn't. Maybe that offer would still stand today. And if it did, it would be a signup to download situation. Not torrents. But instead direct downloads. At least we'd have more control over creating a family-friendly space. (4) I simply do as I always do when I stop sharing here on The Pirate Bay. I quietly go away. I take my act on the road, sharing elsewhere. And I'm perfectly okay doing that too. But this can't go on. If you read this message today, and you ignore it, then you're basically saying you can't help. Or you won't help. Fair enough. But if you have a solution for us, and you'd welcome this Christian Music on your tracker, then please let us all know. Please make room for me and all who would follow me there. During my last bundle, I created a temporary email address. This was done so anyone who wanted to contact me privately could do so. I heard from several people. Many of which were communicating with me for the very first time. It was an encouraging experience. And I'm glad I did it. I got to hear about some struggles within families, and how this music is a small light of hope from those daily challenges. I got to hear about people using this music to reach out and minister to others, and in one case the individual sent hard drives filled with music obtained through these torrents to ministries all around the world. Amazing story! I got to hear from a Teacher who uses this music in their classroom, I got to hear from a Radio Station DJ who airs some of this music, and I got to hear from a Pastor who hands out this music to troubled city youth on weekends. I got to hear about new-to-Christ Christians, and how something as simple as the accumulation of this music has helped them adapt to their new lifestyles. And I got to hear from many of you regarding a private tracker. Perhaps the most encouraging exchange of information about the tracker came from Nathan.S who suggested a new-to-us method of torrenting. He and I ran a small test amongst ourselves with absolute and complete success. And this past weekend, we created a more realistic testing environment by making a torrent of music privately available to about fifteen of you who had emailed me. So with the information we've gained from that larger test, we can now work out the kinks, and take one step forward in perhaps going private. And on that note, I'm not completely sure if we will indeed go private just yet. For all the crap we occasionally have to put up with here, The Pirate Bay has still been a blessing to us all. I'm sure most of these testimonies wouldn't exist if the music wasn't as freely available as it is right now. In other words, if the music was trapped behind layers of registration and hard to meet website rules (ie share ratios, trade for trades, donations, etc). I know I've tried to register accounts of private websites before. It hasn't always been easy. Sometimes you don't get in unless you get invited in. And getting invited in is like winning the lottery. Your chances are slim. But I assure you that won't happen with us. If we go private, all are welcome. Period. In the mean while, enjoy today's 20th bundle. I've also got most of Bundle 21 prepared, but unfortunately it may need to wait for some time before I can find the time to share it. Not only am I busier than usual with this tracker stuff, but my private life has become a bigger challenge as well. But I'll continue to do my best. In His sake, to serve you. Instead it's whether or not they speak English. What can I say? It would be a long and awkward trip for both of us if we couldn't communicate. But this guy did in fact speak English. Although French appeared to be his first language. Turns out he was traveling about three hours north of where I picked him up. So since I had a free day, and a tank full of gasoline, I offered to drive him to his destination. And I'm glad I did. We got to talking when he saw a cross hanging from my rear view mirror. In a thick French accent, he pointed to the cross and sarcastically said something like, "you believe in this?" I think I responded by saying something like, "It doesn't matter what I believe in. The truth doesn't depend on my acceptance of it. The truth is the truth whether I believe it or not." When you're in a vehicle with a stranger for three hours, you get to learn a lot. Not only about the other person, but you learn a lot about yourself as well. For instance, I learned that in that particular situation, I had no immediate answer when this guy told me he grew up in a Christian home, and was given every opportunity to succeed as a Believer in Christ. But instead he strayed from the Lord. Why? His Father drank way too much and was abusive towards his Mother. And as a young boy, he couldn't understand how God would allow such a thing to happen. And he was angry at his Mother for remaining there. Now I know there are a lot of people who download this music. Probably far more than I even realize. But I have had private conversations with two of you who come to mind. Individuals who are living in, let's call it "less than a 50/50 marriage." And one of you in particular told me that, in a small way, you use this music to keep yourself focused on God during those difficult times. So I am dedicating this bundle today to any and all of you who have had to live in less than ideal situations. Be it living with an abusive spouse, putting up with hurtful family, condescending friends, atheist colleagues at work, etc. I don't need to remind any of you that God's reward is far greater than any punishment we endure here. But just like that hitchhiker who is now in my prayers, I also pray for strength, endurance, and direction for all of you as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2014 - THE YEAR IN CHRISTIAN MUSIC ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I heard a sermon this morning on the importance of living a debt free life. The Pastor went on to say that when our attention is focused on debt, it robs the Lord of our eagerness to fully submit to His plan. So it was important, as Christians, to pay off our own debts. And equally important for us to forgive the debts we have of others. As I sat there listening, I couldn't help but to think of an individual I loaned a great sum of money to many years ago. She came to me with a hard luck story, an immediate financial need for her five children, and a detailed plan of action with the promise to repay me in two months. But two months came and passed. As did two years. Then four years. Then six years. Perhaps by year number two, I gave up. Surely I could invest my time in matters that were more Godly driven then listening to this woman's lies, right? By year number three, she told me she found the Lord. Don't you just love it when someone tells you that? Yeah right! I had no doubt that what she found was just another reason to annoy me further. By year number seven, to her credit, her apologies seemed a "little" more genuine. But her desire to truly know God seemed more on target. So she pleaded with me to teach her all about God. To minister. To help her find the same type of love in the Lord that she saw within myself. During all of those years I gave this person every opportunity to make right on that loan. But there was always a reason. Always an excuse. At one point I told her if she paid me half the money, I would consider the debt paid in full. Never happened. At another point, I told her that that if she tithed any portion of that debt to her Church, I would consider the debt paid in full. Never happened. At another point, I told her if she paid me a penny for every dollar I loaned her, I would match each penny by $0.99 (equaling the original debt) and personally do something awesome for the Lord that she would certainly rejoice in. Never happened. This story is a long one. With many layers. But the truth is, by year number two, I turned that debt (and it's stresses) over to the Lord. After all, it's all His money anyway. Right? Any wealth we enjoy comes from above. From the talents and opportunities He has blessed us with. Amen? So I feel absolutely blessed to say I live a debt free life today. My house, my vehicle, my toys, they're all paid in full. But sometimes the hardest debt of all to rid our lives of is the debt others owe to us. And just like in my story above, I hope that if some of you are owed money by others, money which you could perhaps live your life without, please do. Pray on it, and if God is calling you to do so, please forgive that debt. There's no greater joy that being truly committed and steadfast focused on God ... and not the distracting annoyances of this world. Be it the frustration you feel about the omittance of some spare change in your pocket, a cup of sugar you loaned the neighbor last month, a relative who borrowed a tool and broke it, or some other such debt you feel deprived of.
